It's inner strength to separate from the robots in society. If you have ever heard the term that people are sheep and to just go along with the crowd. Why be a sheep, when you can be a sheep herder and rule them all? Free will is that "inner strength" that allows you to make those decisions on your own and not be another mindless zombie.
