I think that hate is more powerful than love. For example people get in fights all the time with the ones they love and they never get over it. Anger and stuborness win out a lot of the time over love because people feel that they are right and they want the other person to apologize. I guess it could also be argued though that love never really existed between these people. Also it is a lot easier to hate then it is to love.

i think that they are equal. some people just choose to show one more then the other. also i think love is extremely powerful and people can truely change the world with love, but the same can be said about hate. i think that if there is enough love in the world it could easily over-rule hate, but unfortunately, hate seems, like Heather said, to be the easier one to feel. also, i think that love is more rewarding, which in a way makes it more powerful.

Which is more powerful? I'd say they're different sides of the same coin. Different blades of the scissor. Metaphors aside, it is difficult to determine which one holds advantage over the other. They are both powerful emotions, with the possibility to change the world, as mentioned above by Sara, but hate is often remembered more in people's mind.
So what you might want to answer first is what you mean by powerful?
Is it the impact on peoples' lives?
The potential to change things? (i.e. the world, opinions, etc.)
The greater emotional response?
The popularity in certain cultures/age groups?

I think that they both can be equally powerful. It depends on the person and situation, just like Sara and Mark said. You cannot measure the quantity of these emotions, as the strengh is unlimited.

I think that all of teh comments about love and hate being one and the same are dead on, to borrow mr. bakers terminology. I think people often choose to show hate more than love because it makes them seem less vulnerable to themselves. In reality, both emotions are still there and they are every bit as vulnerable as they were before.

I also think that the emotions are both same and thats why they are categorized as an emotion. the only thing is that it depends on the person how the choose to show it, for instance one man can show hate as a more powerful emotion but a nother man or woman will show love as a more powerful emotiion but in all each person has its own emotion but it is just expressed differently it depends on the person.

I'm not sure you can say that love and hate are the same thing. I know I am completely disagreeing with everyone above me, but I'm not sure how you can say two opposite emotions are the same. I can see how they can be catagorized togetheer and are similar, but not one and the same. I do however believe that they can be equally powerful. Like Leke said, it all depends on the person and the situation the person is in.

I believe that both love and hate are in an equilbrium with each other. One cannot exist without the other, if there was no hate, there would be no reason to love, and if there was no love, there would be no reason to hate. I believe that love and hate are equally powerful, but one may choose to hate more than they love or vice versa.
