Basically, the Buddhist believe that there is no real self- "The self is an illusion that keeps us from achieveing nirvana." wow, that is definitley not something I would have thought of... even though it is a very interesting thought, I dont' agree with it. I mean the self is more like the whole you- and the reason nirvana cannot be reached is beacuse of the "bad" in our soul. The Buddhist also say that you are not one set self- you are always changing and who you are right now is just made of the memories and experiences you have. I thnk that this is a little too far fetched and not really realistic- I mean you develop, but you don't actually change.
